At Mapelina, you can choose smooth 200 gsm standard paper or subtly textured 310 gsm premium paper. Both finishes are matte. The format, map crop, and size of your lettering also shape how the poster looks on your wall.
Compare poster sizes
Compare the width and height of the three portrait formats. The shapes show the paper only; a frame would need additional space.
Shown to scale relative to each other, not at actual size on screen. Dimensions exclude a frame.
A4 (21 × 29.7 cm)
For a small nook or as part of a gallery wall.
30 × 40 cm
More space for your design, including alongside other pictures.
50 × 70 cm
For more presence as a standalone piece on an open wall.
Standard matte: 200 gsm
Choose standard matte if you prefer a smooth surface for your map design. The 200 gsm specification means grams per square metre of paper, not the weight of the finished poster.
200 gsm paper weight
Smooth, matte surface
Also used for the available classic frames
Premium matte: 310 gsm
Premium matte has a higher paper weight and a subtly textured surface. Choose it if you enjoy visible paper texture. The screen preview shows your design; it cannot show you how the paper feels.
310 gsm paper weight
Subtly textured, matte surface
Available as a poster without an included frame
Which format fits your wall?
The three portrait formats are A4 at 21 × 29.7 cm, 30 × 40 cm, and 50 × 70 cm. A4 can suit a small nook or gallery wall. 30 × 40 cm gives the design more space, while 50 × 70 cm has more presence as a standalone piece. The available space and your usual viewing distance matter most.
Measure the width and height of your available wall space.
Lay out paper in your chosen dimensions, or draw the outline on a sheet and hold it against the wall.
Look from your sofa, desk, or doorway; allow for the outer dimensions of any frame you add yourself.
Check the crop after changing format
A4, 30 × 40 cm, and 50 × 70 cm have different aspect ratios. Changing format therefore changes the proportions of your design. Check the map crop again: is your important place still clearly visible, do the river and streets fit, and is the lettering easy to read?
Choose paper and framing together
Classic frames in black, natural, or white are offered for A4, 30 × 40 cm, and 50 × 70 cm with 200 gsm standard matte paper. 310 gsm premium matte is offered without an included frame. Frame availability also depends on the delivery country; frames are currently unavailable for the USA and Canada. Check the combination offered in the configurator.
Use the preview before ordering
Each poster is produced from your design. Check the place, spelling, date, crop, and text size in the preview. Screen brightness and display settings affect how you see colours; a preview is not an exact colour proof and cannot convey the feel of the paper.
Frequently asked questions
Is the paper glossy?+
No. Both 200 gsm standard matte and 310 gsm premium matte have a matte surface. Standard is smooth; premium has a subtle texture. Any glazing you add can reflect light independently of the paper.
Which size fits my wall?+
Measure the available wall space and hold up paper in A4 (21 × 29.7 cm), 30 × 40 cm, or 50 × 70 cm. Look from your usual viewing distance to judge the fit. The size illustration on this page shows relative proportions, not actual size on screen.
Can I order premium matte with a frame?+
The classic frames available with your order use 200 gsm standard matte paper. You can choose 310 gsm premium matte as a poster without an included frame and add a suitable frame yourself.
Does my map crop stay the same at every size?+
The formats have different aspect ratios. After changing the format, check the crop and lettering again before ordering.
